FINA World Swimming Championships

FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), 16 - 21 December 2021

The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) brought the world’s best ‘short course’ swimmers, to Etihad Arena from 16 - 21 December 2021. Hosting the championship required 3 weeks of preparation and the assembly of 2 swimming pools inside the arena.

During te competition 4 new world records were established. With two gold medals and one bronze medal, Hong Kong China’s Siobhan Haughey was named female swimmer of the meet. Russian athlete Kliment Kolesnikov walked away from Abu Dhabi with 5 medals, 4 golds and a silver and was named male swimmer of the meet.

Alongside the swimming action in the Arena, sports fans were able to catch spectacular aquatics displays in Yas Bay with the FINA High Diving Qualifier and the ultimate leg of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2021

The interactive Market Place located on the Arena plaza offered hours of fun for all, packed with family-friendly entertainment, cultural learning experiences, delicious food and beverage and more.
